2024 Year-End Reflection: A Journey of Family, Tradition, and Connection
In 2024, I had the privilege of assisting my father, Rommy Haines Jr., and several of his cousins in organizing a special event and creating an online archive for the Descendants of J. Wingate Haines and Mary Briggs. This project, for me, has been part family reunion, part history lesson, and part personal journey. In honoring the traditions of our Quaker ancestors, we affectionately termed the landmark event “The Gathering.”

The story of Shiloh Temple
According to a Portland Press Herald article, the Durham Historical Society refers to the Shiloh Chapel of the early 1900s as “a home for a secretive apocalyptic Christian cult," which was very “secretive” and “unconventional.”

10 STORIES OF CHILDREN OF WINGATE AND MARY HAINES WITHOUT PROGENY
Of the 17 children born to Joseph Wingate and Mary Briggs Haines, eight did not produce children or children that survived very long. Information about these children follows.

Preparation Work for Event
Lots of effort has been expended over recent months to prepare for a rewarding experience in Fort Fairfield on July 27 at The Gathering. A local program committee has been meeting to plan activities at the VFW Hall. Shortly, you will hear more details about the evening dinner, the menu and the cost per person. Since the caterer expects to be paid in advance and have a solid headcount several days before the dinner, those who wish to take advantage of the evening experience will be given instructions on how and when to register for the dinner and prepay for it. Stay tuned.

Welcome Cousins!
Welcome to the family discussion board!
This space is meant to be a place to connect with one another and share stories and information.
Periodically, we will be posting photos, articles, and other resources to share and discuss here. Updates about the upcoming gathering will also be announced here so be sure to check back often.
